In case your travel plans are taking you to the East Coast or Midwest this summer I would like to share three of my favorite bike tours in a few of my favorite cities in the US! Over the last several years I have enjoyed bike tours with my family and friends in Washington DC, New York City and Chicago! I’ve actually enjoyed a few of these tours so much that I’ve done them more than once!
When traveling with kids I find that taking a bike tour is an especially great option when your kids are beginning to get a bit tired of the touring scene with “the parents”! When you take a bike tour they now have somebody else to pay attention to…..your fun bike tour guide! Now they are learning fascinating new things about a great American city that sounds so much more interesting now that it is coming from somebody else but their parents, right!? Most kids I know really enjoy bike riding, and when you package that with a fun tour on wheels, I think you are going to have a happy child on your hands…..and some happy parents!
I’ve taken the Bike n Roll NYC tour of Central Park three times……with my family, with my girlfriends, and with my mom! It’s fun to see the park at different times of the year and the tour offers a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. They have great tour guides in NYC who are full of personality and always have interesting information to share about the city and the park. My absolute favorite tour guide with Bike n Roll NYC is, Bob Trenta! Don’t get me wrong, all the guides are wonderful, I just really enjoy Bob’s fun personality. They have many other tours in NYC, including trips over the Brooklyn Bridge and other areas of NYC. I haven’t taken the bike tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, but I have walked it many times from Brooklyn to Manhattan and I love doing this every time I go…..I especially love doing this walk at sunset with pizza beforehand at Grimaldi’s! I definitely have their other bike tours on my list for my next visit to the city!
Here is a pic of my girlfriends and I wrapping up the Central Park tour a few years back. My friends would kill me if they knew I posted this pic of them…..early morning ride before showers and make-up! We do clean up well….maybe I should post an after shot?!
Okay, to make the ladies happy here is an after shot of the group. And look at who we ran into later that night in the hotel lobby…..our favorite TV mom from Modern Family! It was a good day! A good workout with Bike n Roll in the morning and a star sighting in the hotel lobby that night! I must tell you that she is a complete sweetheart! So fun to chat with and was more than happy to take a pic with our group! Side note: my friends have asked that you do not contact them on Match, E-Harmony, or any other dating sites. 😉
Another favorite of mine is the Washington, DC Bike N Roll tour of the Washington monuments at night. Our family has throughly enjoyed this tour and we’ve done it twice, most recently last summer. Our kids like it every time and it gets them off their feet for a bit, but still exercising and having fun! We love doing the sunset tour in DC because the temperature is perfect and the monuments take on a magical quality at night when they are all lit up! There really isn’t an easier or more interesting way to fit in a visit to all of the monuments. We’ve had the best tour guides in DC, full of energy and information, and we’ve learned so many interesting facts about the monuments that I’m sure we would have never learned on our own.
Last, but not least, is a bike tour I took in Chicago a few years ago with friends. This time we used a company called, Bobby’s, and we had a great time with them as well! We did the Lakefront Tour, and I must say, it did not disappoint! Our guide took us through several lovely neighborhoods with a stop at a farmer’s market and then on to the stunning Chicago lakefront, where he gave us a great history lesson about the city! It was a crisp fall morning and a great time to take a ride through the city to see all of the beautiful trees changing color!
The beautiful Trump Hotel in downtown Chicago where we stayed. Centrally located to everything you want to see in the Windy City and a great place to stay for a getaway with friends!
A view of the Chicago River flowing into Lake Michigan.
If you happen to be going to one of these fabulous cities this summer, I hope you decide to book one of these fun and informative tours with your friends or family.
Bike n Roll kindly supplied a few of the pictures in this post.
Bike n Roll and Bobbie’s did not pay for any of my tours. I just simply wanted to spread the word about a few companies that I have been very pleased with.
Thanks for stopping by! ~April
