A couple of weeks ago our friends invited us to spend the weekend at their lovely Santa Cruz beach home! If you’ve never been to this funky beach town, located one hour from the bay area, then you must check it out! I would say it has a little bit of something for everyone on your list……nice beaches, great hiking in the mountains, nice paths along the beach for sunset strolls, and a fun boardwalk for the kids! I could go on and on about the Santa Cruz and Capitola area, but I’m here to tell you about the delicious breakfast I had while staying with our friends. I walked downstairs in the morning to a lovely buffet of Siggi’s yogurt with a wonderful selection of nuts and berries…….I kind of felt like I was at a frozen yogurt shop with a variety of amazing flavors and an array of delicious toppings! No, there weren’t any chocolate chips or rainbow sprinkles, but just a really nice assortment of everything you might want for your yogurt, all beautifully presented in adorable Anthropologie bowls. I was good to go for many hours after this very satisfying and healthy breakfast……well, I did have seconds, because it was that good!
I’ve seen Siggi’s yogurt in the dairy section of the market, but had never thought about trying it because I’ve been on the Greek yogurt bandwagon for the last several years. Siggi’s has so many delicious and unique flavors to choose from that it’s hard to pick just one favorite. I like the fact that they have 0% and 2%……love the creaminess of the 2%! I think they carry 4% products as well…..I’m going to have to get my hands on that! I’m originally from the Midwest and I love my dairy!
Hummm….now I’m wondering who this Icelandic man Siggi is? Wonder what he looks like……I’m sure he is probably too young, and I’m a happily married woman in her late 40’s with two moody teens, but just wondering!? It’s okay to wonder, right? Here is the story about Siggi and how he got started. Love the story, love the product!
I love fresh fruit on yogurt and you just feel so good about starting the day with all of that goodness in your body. And I really like the fact that Siggi’s yogurt is low in sugar and high in protein!
Add some of your favorite nuts and a bit of honey, if you need some additional sweetness, and you have it covered. I like unsalted walnuts, unsalted almonds, and granola. Dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, or sunflowers seeds would also be a very nice addition. Love the crunch of the nuts and the sweetness of the fruit…..you really can’t go wrong with that combo!
I decided to pair the vanilla yogurt with my favorite Manila mangoes and a few walnuts and pumpkin seeds……my favorite new combination. By the way, I think I eat way too many mangoes! If you haven’t tried mangoes, then you definitely need to because they are way too delicious to not be a part of your life. Just my two cents on mangoes. I just don’t want you to miss out! Think mango martinis, mango margaritas, mango smoothies! LOVE.
Another favorite with fresh organic blueberries, walnuts and pumpkin seeds.
Having a yogurt buffet to offer your guests is such an easy and healthy alternative to the usual pancakes, eggs, and bacon. After a sleepover I know my kids will love offering this to their friends in the morning as they get to pick out all of their favorite toppings, which makes it really fun for them! So much of the prep can be done the night before, which is a huge bonus for me! I love prepping ahead!! Wash and cut the fruit the night before and place all of the nuts and seeds in cute little bowls that can easily be brought out right as your guests are coming in for breakfast. This also makes for a healthy after school snack or it is something you can pack in lunches with a freezer pack.
Have you tried Siggi’s? What do you think of it? What is your favorite yogurt?
