Samson’s Cocktail

When I recently saw this drink advertised in, of all places, the summer catalog of Vineyard Vines, I knew I had to make this tropical drink immediately! It sounds like the photographers of Vineyard Vines met a man named Samson on their recent photo shoot in the Caribbean, who inspired this drink.  Well, Samson, I wish I knew what hotel you worked at in the Caribbean because I’d want to vacation at a resort that offers drinks as tasty as yours! 😉

This fruity rum concotion just screams summer and dreamy tropical getaways!  And it certainly has my name written all over it! I realize that stocking three different types of rum is quite a bit to normally have on hand, but you have to make an exception here……really you do! If you only happen to have one type of rum on hand, I’m sure you could easily improvise by adding just the rum you do have, but I do think you should make a quick trip to the store for this one.

The required rums for this drink are pineapple, banana, and coconut rum. I really think that combining all three varieties takes this drink from good to darn right fabulous in a hurry!

Ingredients for one drink:

1 oz of pineapple rum

1 oz of coconut rum

1 oz of banana rum

2 oz cranberry juice

2 oz pineapple juice

2 oz orange juice

splash of grenadine

Combine in a shaker or stir ……enjoy!

Add a splash of grenadine followed by some pineapple, cranberry, and orange juice. So far there is absolutely nothing wrong with the combinations here, right?! Hmmm…..rum, grenadine, and juice. Sounds perfect!

You can shake this drink in a cocktail shaker with ice or stir it all together in the glass of your choice with a cocktail stirrer. It’s really up to you!

Warning: I’m not sure if this drink should be consumed with a straw because it may cause you to drink Samson’s cocktail way too quickly! You might want to consider drinking this without a straw. It’s entirely up to you, but you have been warned!

Let me know what you think of this drink!

Wishing you a fabulous weekend full of fun and relaxation!

  1. Currently floating around the Carribbean on our summer trip I can attest that this drink looks true to island form!

That being said I have not yet tried a cocktail (or mocktail since we are travelling with kids) with Three types of rum –

Yesterday I did have a piña with 2 types, Captain Morgans and Malibu. It’s the sweetness of the tropical fruits mixed with the spicy of the rum that makes these island drinks one of a kind!

Thank you for sharing your new recipe find April (or should I look for Morgan here to thank ;). I’ll be coming by your place in a couple days to give it a try!
