Watermelon Martini

Nothing says summer like a crisp piece of juicy watermelon! Summer is almost here and I’m beginning to feel the urge to throw a backyard cocktail party in celebration of the end of the school year and the beginning of longer days and warmer temperatures! Around my house we snack on watermelon May through October, and what better way to use up some of the extra than to make a tasty cocktail! This was my first time making this drink and it’s so delicious, it will definitely be in my rotation of warm weather cocktails that I’m offering to friends and family this summer!

Let’s get started!

The first thing I do when I know I’m going to be serving drinks of any kind is to put the glasses and cocktail shaker in the freezer. I like them really cold and frosty. Don’t you love it when your cocktail glass is fresh from the freezer…..I think it makes the drink that much better when it’s really cold! I also like to keep my vodka and simple syrup well chilled.

Ingredients you will need to make this cocktail:

This makes 2 cocktails with a little extra.

1 cup of watermelon juice…..I cut up approximately 2 cups of fresh seedless watermelon

1/4 cup vodka….I used vanilla flavored vodka. Use whatever you have on hand….I just like vanilla.

2 TB simple syrup……this is easy to make from scratch if you don’t have a bottle at home.

1 lime juiced

Let’s get this party started!

I cut up approximately 2 cups of watermelon and originally put the watermelon chunks in the blender, but it didn’t blend! Definitely not enough liquid so I decided to try my food processor (without liquid) and that worked like a charm!! If you don’t have a food processor, or don’t want to haul that heavy machine out, just add some extra liquid to the watermelon chunks in the blender…..maybe some extra vodka? I will not judge you if you decide to use vodka to get this process going! If you are making this recipe before a party, a little extra vodka will probably be a good thing! In fact, I’m thinking I would like to have an invite to your party because you’re probably a great host! Wink! Wink!

Once you have the watermelon juiced, pour the mixture through a strainer so you can catch all of the seeds and watermelon pulp. Don’t forget to put a bowl under the strainer to catch all of the delicious juice that you will be using for the drink!  Stay with me folks we are almost there!

Okay, now that you have your freshly blended watermelon juice, you can start putting everything into your frosty cocktail shaker.  First and foremost……add ice to your shaker. Add the watermelon juice, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and vodka! Shake your shaker like you mean it, and then pour into your favorite cocktail glass with a slice of watermelon added to the rim for decoration.

Wow, that looks sooo good! I think I want one right now! Well, I’ve been tasting along the way so I can tell you right now it’s a keeper!

Do you have a go to drink that you make for parties?

I always try to offer some type of fruity cocktail to my friends when they come over, and this one will definitely be offered the next time I have a gathering!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again real soon!

  1. Simply delicious, Ms. B!!! I love your humor…extra vodka huh?? That could definitely get the party started. I love watermelon-it’s so cool and refreshing-with the lime and vodka–perfection. Those cocktail glasses are so pretty. Is that a mercury finish on the base??
